The Bar Council of India (BCI) has barred nine law colleges in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh from admitting students after reports were received of ‘serious’ deficiencies during surprise inspections. The barred colleges have been prohibited from admitting students for the academic year 2026-27 until further notice.
The list may be revised or updated from time to time based on further inspection reports and materials received by the Bar Council of India. The list of nine colleges includes eight from Uttar Pradesh and four from Rajasthan.
The inspections were conducted by the ‘high-level surprise inspection team’, chaired by former Judges of High Courts and comprising law academicians. and comprising eminent law academicians.
The inspection findings have been examined and considered by the inspection committee, chaired by a former Chief Justice of a High Court, who is also the co-chairman of the legal education committee and the standing committee on legal education.
The list of barred colleges as per BCI is given below.
BCI has advised students, parents, universities, state authorities, and the general public that the Centres of Legal Education (CLEs) mentioned in the list are not allowed to admit students in any law degree course for the academic session 2026-2027 and until further notice.
Notably, the council has made physical inspection mandatory for law college affiliation and constituent CLEs before granting, renewing, or continuing affiliation. BCI has also extended the deadline for submission of applications for continuation of affiliation for the academic year 2026-27 till August 31 after several colleges sought additional time due to delays in obtaining affiliation orders.
