Bihar CM announces single-phase TRE 4 exam, accepts student demands

The Bihar government has announced that the upcoming Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE-4) will be conducted in a single phase, following the demands that were raised by students. The meeting was held between Bihar government officials and a student representative delegation.

Samrat Choudhary, Bihar chief minister, in a post on X, said that the government has also taken nine other decisions for issues related to student welfare and examinations. The minutes of the meeting stated that “The government also decided to take further action according to the rules regarding the “One Candidate, One Result” policy.”

The state has also set up an expert committee under the chairmanship of a judge of the Patna High Court that will recommend measures for improving the examination process. 

Measures to address student grievances

The committee will also hear complaints and grievances that are raised by students against various examinations. This will offer students a formal platform where they can freely raise their voices, helping the government with areas for improvement.

To make it easier, the government has introduced the Vidyarthi Sahyog Portal and Vidyarthi Sahyog Camps. These initiatives will help students with faster ways to report problems and be heard. According to the government, complaints that will be received through these platforms will be addressed within 30 days.

The Bihar government has repeatedly said that student welfare will always be a priority and it would continue working towards measures that support students and their prospects.

Key decisions on recruitment, examination reforms

The Bihar government has also decided that it will start the recruitment process for librarians based on the available vacancies. A committee will check whether separate quotas, marks or weightage for contractual employees can be considered.

The domicile policy was also discussed, and the government said it would take more steps based on legal advice to implement in all possible ways in Bihar’s recruitment process. The meeting also agreed to set a maximum age limit for recruitment.

The government will also release a recruitment calendar and make arrangements to strictly follow it. For transparency in recruitment examinations, the government will also share a proposal before the committee. This will include access to Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) question papers, OMR sheets and answer keys.

The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) is taking legal steps to investigate allegations of paper leaks in the AEDO, Sanitary and other BPSC examinations. Based on the above decisions, the student delegation had agreed to withdraw the protest.
