The department’s HRD scheme has included programmes for women scientists and for Non-Resident Indian (NRIs), Persons of Indian Origin (PIO), and Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) health research personnel to work on a research project in India. DHR guidelines have also mentioned programme-specific requirements like documents related to the applicant, host institution and details about the research proposal.
Researchers who are interested in human participants or animals will have to take clearance from the appropriate Human Ethics Committee or Animal Ethics Committee of their respective institutions. Proposals and fellowships will be selected only after the technical committee has approved them and funds are available.
DHR has also encouraged researchers from the Northeast to apply for International Travel Grant applications on a rolling basis. Eligible applicants can check the detailed eligibility criteria and other programme guidelines directly on the department’s website. The deadline to submit full-length research proposals is November 30, 2026, by 5 pm.
