Education Ministry opens recruitment for director, VC positions at IITs, IISERs

The Ministry of Education, Government of India, has started inviting applications for various senior leadership positions. These open positions include director and vice-chancellor roles at technical and higher education institutions which are centrally funded.

The institutions include Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Senapati, Manipur, IIT Mandi, IIT Delhi, National Institute of Technical Teachers’ Training and Research (NITTTR), Chennai, and Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Bhopal.

The ministry has published separate advertisements issued for the respective institutions on its official website, dohe-education.gov.in. The appointments will fill key leadership positions that will be responsible for academic, administrative and institutional matters.

Updates on key institute appointments

For IIT Mandi, the ministry has recently opened applications and nominations for the post of Director before the tenure of the present director, Laxmidhar Behera, ends in December 2026. The selected candidate will be on a contract for five years or until attains the age of 70 years, whichever is earlier.

The director of IISER Bhopal acts as the institute's principal academic and administrative head. The institute has also published an update in response to the appointment process, with the application deadline being extended to September 13, 2026.

The appointments announced by the ministry of education are expected to provide new leadership to these institutions who can oversee their academic, research and administrative work.
