ICSSR invites Major, Minor Research proposals for 2026-27, extends deadline to September 14
The Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) has started inviting research proposals from Indian scholars, researchers and academicians under its Major and Minor Research Projects Scheme for 2026-27. The scheme will allow researchers to take up projects in the social sciences and support research and knowledge in their respective fields.
Interested applicants can apply after reading the scheme guidelines before submitting the online application form. According to ICSSR, research proposals must be prepared using the format provided in the online application form. Researchers need not upload a separate proposal document.
The council has also asked applicants to submit their applications before the last date. The original deadline was August 31, 2026, by 6 pm, but ICSSR has now extended the last date to September 14, 2026. This will give additional time to eligible researchers to complete their applications.

Applications for the scheme will be accepted only through the online portal. Applicants do not have to send hard copies of their applications or supporting documents to the council. ICSSR has also shared other opportunities for researchers and academics, including grants, fellowships and support for organising seminars. The council has even announced the CAG-ICSSR research article writing competition.
In addition to research-related opportunities, ICSSR has published information about other vacancies, which include Administrative Officer, Deputy Director (Research), Accounts Assistant, Stenographer Grade 2 and Upper Division Clerk.

Interested researchers can follow the steps below:
- Visit the official website of ICSSR
- Read the scheme guidelines on the ICSSR website and check eligibility
- Then go to the application dashboard to register using an email ID and username
- Log in with the credentials and fill the form
- Complete all the fields required either in English or Hindi
- Then, upload all required documents in PDF format
- Submit the completed application form and save as a draft
