The Right to Information Act (RTI) filed by All India OBC Students Association’s (AIOBCSA) president Kiran Kumar Gowd shows that the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Indore has the highest number of faculty members from the general category, followed by OBC, and none from SC, ST, and PwD categories.
AIOBCSA has raised concerns over the “alarming” number of vacant faculty positions at IIM Indore. Out of 150 sanctioned posts for professors, associate professors, and assistant professors, only 109 appointments have been made.
Of these, 106 faculty members belong to the general category – appointed as professors, associate and assistant professors – while just two are from the OBC category and one from the EWS category, all assistant professors.
However, no appointments have been made from the SC, ST, or PwD categories, while there are 41 faculty positions vacant.
“This is not at all acceptable! Numbers from IIM-Indore are alarming!” AIOBCSA tweeted on its official X account.
Since 2018, AIOBCSA has filed multiple RTI applications to understand the extent of inclusion or exclusion that India’s marginalised communities face in educational institutions, Academia360 had reported earlier.
Earlier, AIOBCSA has also shared the faculty data of IIM Tiruchirappalli. As per the data, 83.33% of OBC, 86.66% of SC, and 100% of ST positions were vacant at the institute. IIM Trichy filled all the positions under the general category, while others remained unfilled.
AIOBCSA works for the empowerment of socially and educationally backward classes.
Notably, IIM Indore has also invited applications for recruitment of faculty positions for OBC, SC, ST, EWS, PwD categories in various departments, including Communications Marketing, Economics, Operations Management, Finance and Accounting, Organizational Behaviour & HRM, Humanities and Social Sciences, and other departments.
Eligible candidates can apply for positions of professors, associate and assistant professors by February 28. For more information, visit: iimidr.ac.in/careers/
