The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) and the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) have partnered and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to give students opportunities for learning value-based education, personal development, ethical leadership and well-being. This was announced by IIT Kanpur in a post on its social media account X.
The MoU will continue for two years and give a framework for ISKCON to hold voluntary educational and well-being programmes for IIT Kanpur students who are interested. The MoU was signed by Prem Harinam Das, president of ISKCON Kanpur, on behalf of ISKCON and Pratik Sen, dean of student affairs, IIT Kanpur, on behalf of the institute.
The post on X says, “The partnership marks a significant step towards fostering a more holistic educational environment at IIT Kanpur, providing interested students with additional opportunities for personal development, well-being, and value-based learning.”
Under the partnership, ISKCON can offer certified courses on topics like self-management, stress management, wellness, personal development, and self-esteem. Each course will consist of eight one-hour sessions. Participation in these sessions will be voluntary.
Students who enroll in these programmes may also choose to participate in advanced courses, mentorship programmes, educational visits, and hands-on learning activities organised by ISKCON. Only if students wish can they take part in the advanced lessons.
The collaboration will give the students opportunities to work on aspects of personal development that are not covered in their regular studies. The initiatives will focus on areas such as self-discipline, ethical values, stress management and well-being. These can be helpful in both academic and professional development.
