'No Statements Against Centre': IIT Roorkee seeks to stop students, staff from commenting on CJP protest

Amid the ongoing Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protests, demanding resignation of the union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan due to NEET UG 2026 paper leak and lapses in the education system, the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) has reminded students to refrain from participating in any political activity or making public statements on policy matters without prior permission.

The reminder from IIT Roorkee comes after it noticed that some of its campus "inmates" had expressed solidarity with the ongoing political agitation against the Centre on their social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, X and others.

The advisory has been criticised as a “gag order” online, as it warned students and employees against using any social media platform to discuss the current students protests.

It has reiterated students not to say or do anything which is capable of embarrassing relations between the Central government and the technology institute.

“All the students, employees, stakeholders are politely reminded herewith that it is engraved in the notified conduct rules of IIT Roorkee that no student or employee will be allowed to join political discussion or participate in any political activity without prior permission for the institute or make any statement or opinion in any broadcast/telecast or in any print or electronic media in any public utterance which is capable of embarrassing the relations between the institute and the Central Government or any other Organizations or members of the public,” the engineering institute said in an official notice.

It advised all IIT Roorkee students, employees, and stakeholders to adhere with the guidelines, and the notice, which is issued by the approval of the competent authority.

Meanwhile, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke has apologised to its supporters injured during the parliament march, held on July 20, and appealed to them to approach him personally.

"I apologise to all our supporters, especially the girls who were brutally beaten by male police officers. We could have done better. I could have done better to protect you from the inhumane actions of the Delhi Police,” Dipke wrote on his official X account.

Wangchuk was allegedly manhandled by the Delhi Police on July 19, a day before the Parliament march, and admitted to Safdarjund’s hospital.

In the latest on CJP protests, Delhi High Court has made judgement in favour of transferring Sonam Wangchuk from Safdarjung to Medanta, Hindustan Times reported.
