MP govt plans to divide Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya into 3 technical universities

The Madhya Pradesh government has approved the plan to divide Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (RGPV), Bhopal, into three parts. The approval was based on the proposal of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).

The government approved the proposal after Mohan Yadav, chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, made this announcement during the ABVP Malwa provincial convention on September 1, 2026.

This decision will change how technical education is organised and developed across Madhya Pradesh. The trifurcation of RGPV will support the development of technical and skill-based education in the state.

RGPV is a technical university in Madhya Pradesh, and restructuring might help to improve the management and teaching of technical education. ABVP had raised the proposal as part of its efforts to improve technical education in the state.

Supporting technical education

For the past two years, ABVP, through agitations, memorandums, demonstrations, and dialogue, has been raising the demand for the decentralization of the university. They were appealing against long-standing administrative and academic irregularities and student issues. The state cabinet approved the division of RGPV; hence, Bhopal, Ujjain, and Jabalpur will get new technical universities

RGPV will be divided into three separate universities. The Madhyamik Technological and Skill University, Bhopal will include districts in the Bhopal, Narmadapuram and Chambal divisions. The Malwa University of Technology and Skills will include universities in the Ujjain and Indore divisions, while the Mahakaushal University of Technology and Skills, Jabalpur will involve universities in the Rewa and Sagar divisions.

On the renaming of Rajiv Gandhi Technological University, Inder Singh Parmar, minister of higher education of Madhya Pradesh, in a recent video statement said, "Our first priority was to restore the geographical identity of the region, and therefore we did not remove Rajiv Gandhi’s name. Rajiv Gandhi’s name will remain associated with the institution, and we have also considered that arrangement.”
