Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab chief minister has approved a salary increase of more than 120 percent for around 1,100 teachers working in Adarsh Schools across the state. Earlier, the monthly salary of these teachers was around Rs 10,000, which will now rise to more than Rs 22,000.
This decision to increase the pay was made during a meeting that was chaired by Mann with a delegation of Adarsh School teachers. It was also decided that along with the salary revision, teachers will receive better facilities and improved service conditions, similar to Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs), according to the Punjab government.
Mann said the salary hike will solve a long-standing concern among teachers who have worked for nearly two decades on low salaries. In his post on X, Mann commented, “Only when our teachers feel secure and respected will the future of our children be secure. The Punjab government is fully committed to the welfare and protection of the rights of every section of society.”
Mann said the government has finally accepted the teachers’ demands after years of being neglected by previous governments. He added that only if teachers have better working conditions will they be able to contribute towards improving the quality of education in the state.
The state government said that the decision will provide fair pay, dignity and improved service conditions to the Adarsh School teachers. The salary revision will directly benefit around 1,100 teachers and is also expected to improve their working conditions in the school.
The Punjab government also reiterated its commitment to addressing the concerns of teachers and protecting their interests. With more than 15,000 students studying in these Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) affiliated schools, this salary hike decision is part of the state government’s efforts to improve education and ensure that teachers are getting improved working conditions.
