SRM School of Law, SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) has appointed thirty-five new faculty members, which has increased the total faculty strength of the school. This appointment is for expanding the process in its teaching, research and international academic collaboration.
With constant efforts, the school has also grown into one of the larger law schools in southern India. The new appointments also include 13 faculty members who were earlier associated with Jindal Global Law School. This is also an increase in the number of women faculty members, who now constitute 63 percent of the school’s total faculty.
Talking about the institutional vision, P Sathyanarayanan, pro-chancellor of academics, SRMIST, said, “Our Founder Chancellor, TR. Paarivendhar’s wish is that SRM School of Law produce outstanding individuals who can one day become a Supreme Court Judge or a High Court Judge or excel in the legal profession. We are fully committed to creating a world-class global law school known for academic excellence and quality.”
Nearly 51 percent of the newly appointed faculty members have earned degrees or gained professional experience from international universities. Such universities include the University of California, Berkeley Law School, King’s College London, Queen’s University Belfast, the University of Göttingen, the University of Amsterdam, McGill University and the National University of Singapore.
Moreover, the law school has also added members with qualifications from Indian institutions, like National Law School of India University (NLSIU), NALSAR University of Law, National Law University Delhi, National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS) Kolkata and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur.
Speaking about the school’s focus, Indranath Gupta, dean, school of law, SRMIST, said that, “SRM School of Law seeks to produce next-generation leaders who will shape the legal profession and contribute meaningfully to society. We aspire to nurture future lawyers and judges with great care. I am confident that our faculty members will play an important role in inspiring and shaping the next generation of legal professionals in the country.”
According to SRM School of Law, the increase in faculty will support its teaching and research activities and create better opportunities for international collaboration, research, policy engagement and academic collaboration.
