UGC asks institutions for ‘demand-based mapping’ of SWAYAM courses for July 2026 semester

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked higher education institutions across the country to undertake a demand-based mapping exercise of online courses offered on the education ministry’s SWAYAM portal for the July 2026 semester.

The UGC’s letter to institutions says the mapping exercise “will enable effective planning and facilitate the offering of courses that are best aligned with the specific requirements of universities”.

The UGC has directed HEIs to submit their inputs exclusively through the UGC mapping portal, eseva.ugc.ac.in/swayammapping, by March 10.

The commission has urged universities to examine their curriculum alongside the list of available SWAYAM courses and identify gaps and requirements for the upcoming semester. This will enable the SWAYAM national coordinators to plan for the future.

Institutions have been asked to furnish details on the following parameters:

• Percentage of mapping of SWAYAM courses with the university curriculum

• Credit requirements

• Preferred language of instruction

• Course level (undergraduate,postgraduate)

• Identify the discipline or subject area (such as STEM, humanities, social sciences, commerce, management, law, education, agriculture & allied sciences, medical & allied sciences, environmental studies, multidisciplinary or skill-based areas)

• Whether specific SWAYAM courses need to be re-run in the subsequent semester

• Courses required at the institution but not currently available on the SWAYAM platform

As per the order, consolidated inputs received from institutions will be shared with SWAYAM national coordinators, “who will take necessary steps to develop, update, or re-run relevant courses for the July 2026 semester.”
