The University of Colorado (CU) Denver and Emeritus is starting a new campus in Hyderabad. This announcement regarding the setting up of the new campus was made at a recent launch event. CU Denver said that it has received a letter of intent (LOI) from the University Grants Commission (UGC) to establish the new campus.
The university will start programmes in areas like business, computing, engineering and analytics. The University of Colorado will become the first American public university to set up a campus offering degrees in India and will also become the first foreign university to open a campus in the state of Telangana.
Speaking about making quality education accessible to more students, Kenneth T Christensen, chancellor of CU Denver, said, “Our plans in Hyderabad build on that commitment, as well as our longstanding connection with students from India who have been part of the CU Denver community for decades. We now have an opportunity to extend that connection and bring our unique experience to students in India.”

The university at its Hyderabad campus has planned to combine classroom teaching with practical training. The programmes will focus on learning across subjects, problem-solving and skills needed for jobs.
The CU Denver Hyderabad will also follow the rules under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which includes teaching across subjects, global exposure, student success and career preparation.
While attending the event, Ashwin Damera, Co-founder & CEO, Emeritus said, “CU Denver’s focus on applied learning, interdisciplinary education, and career readiness is particularly relevant to the aspirations of today’s students and the needs of a rapidly evolving workforce. The initiative will create opportunities for students and provide greater access to an education that is both academically rigorous and closely connected to the world of work.”
CU Denver also said that the university has plans to introduce more programmes in the upcoming years, which will be shared with the UGC for approval. The new CU Denver Hyderabad campus is expected to start its first batch in August 2027.
