UP launches medical scheme for 12 lakh teachers; CM transfers DBT funds to 1.10 lakh students

The Uttar Pradesh chief minister, Yogi Adityanath, has launched the "Chief Minister Teacher Cashless Medical Scheme" for around 12 lakh teachers, which will provide health security to teaching and non-teaching staff and their dependents. UP CM also transferred Rs 1,200 for over 1.10 lakh students through DBT to each student’s parents' accounts for uniforms, shoes, socks, sweaters, school bags, and stationery.

UP’s Basic and Secondary Education Department's programmes were launched today at the Deendayal Handicraft Complex, Varanasi.

According to the official press release, the programme also saw the signing of an agreement with the State Bank of India (SBI) to provide social security coverage to 10 lakh teachers and contract workers, and honored the principals and headmasters of nationally selected clean and green schools.

While talking on the launch of new programmes occasion, the minister of state for basic education (Independent Charge) Sandeep Singh said: "Today, from the sacred land of Kashi, where spirituality and knowledge complement each other and pave the way for humanity, our government has begun a new chapter in the welfare of teachers. Knowledge is the light that illuminates the path of the individual, society, and nation."

Singh further added that for a long time, teachers' families had been demanding cashless medical facilities. Uttar Pradesh CM has launched a medical scheme to support millions of teachers and their families. “Now, no teacher will have to worry about medical treatment,” Singh adds.

Uttar Pradesh, SBI agreement; DBT benefits

The agreement has been signed between the basic education department and the State Bank of India (SBI) to provide comprehensive social security to teachers and contractual employees.

Under the new agreement, group term life insurance, personal accident insurance, personal disability cover, and air accident cover will be provided. Additionally, provisions have been made for assistance for the education of teachers' children and add-on coverage for the marriage of daughters.

Singh further added that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the DBT system is eliminating middlemen and delivering benefits directly to the beneficiaries.

UP school dropout rate drops below 3%

Under the government of India’s 'Clean and Green School Scheme,' 12 schools in Uttar Pradesh have received the 'Clean School Award' at the national level.

Before 2017, it was unimaginable that council schools would receive national awards.

In 2017, the dropout rate stood at 15%. Today, in 2026, it has fallen to below 3%, reflecting our commitment to ensuring that every child has access to education. All Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs) have been upgraded to offer education up to Class 12. Additionally, new girls' schools will be established in blocks that currently do not have KGBVs.
