Visva-Bharati University has lodged a First Information Report (FIR) after some posters appeared at several locations on the campus bearing the name of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP). This statement was issued by the public relations in-charge of Visva-Bharati on August 15, 2026.
The university said that the posters made allegations against the recent recruitment process and also named members of its teaching community. The posters contained defamatory claims that the authors did not provide supporting evidence.
The notice further read, “It is with deep concern that the University notes that, though the poster flaunts the name of the CJP, it seems hardly probable that there is more than just a handful of interested individuals - some of them possibly belonging to the intramural community itself - using the name of CJP as a cover for their mischief-making.”
The university has approached the Santiniketan police station against the responsible unidentified persons, and clearly stated that an investigation shall be carried out to find who actually stuck the posters.
In the press note, Visva-Bharati has referred to an earlier incident involving social media posts about the recruitment in its department of Bengali. The university reminded that legal action was taken in that case and individuals involved had to issue an unconditional apology.
The university suggested that a small group of individuals could be using CJP’s name to raise false allegations anonymously. It also questioned whether the claims had evidence, why those allegations were not raised through Right to Information (RTI) applications or taken to a court.
The university further alleged that the posters were generated through artificial intelligence and that the claims were baseless.
Visva-Bharati’s recruitment process has always been conducted transparently and in accordance with University Grants Commission (UGC) norms. Moreover, the university claimed that to make the recruitment process transparent, experts from Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and other reputed universities have been invited to participate in the process.
