West Bengal SSC likely to release revised merit list for 12,445 higher secondary teacher posts

The West Bengal Central School Service Commission (SSC) might release a revised merit list for the higher secondary school teachers recruitment. This list will be shared based on the change in the state’s Other Backward Classes (OBC) reservation policy. The recruitment will cover a total of 12,445 higher secondary teaching posts.

Earlier, the commission had released a merit list in January 2021, made on the reservation framework implemented by the previous government. In May this year, Suvendu Adhikari, West Bengal chief minister, announced a revision of the OBC reservation for 66 communities. According to a senior official, the commission is now revising the old merit list.

The OBC reservation earlier applicable to the recruitment process has been reduced from 17 percent to 7 percent after the state government announced the revision of the quota structure. The only reason to release a revised merit list is to ensure that the recruitment results are aligned with the new reservation provisions.

Candidates who appeared for the recruitment process might be affected by changes in the reservation quota and the subsequent revision of the merit list being released. The list of shortlisted candidates for interview may be released by the third week of September. WB SSC recruitment: Earlier developments

The previous panel had recommended 3,586 candidates for appointment as per the commission sources. The revised merit list might change the candidature or ranking of a few candidates who were included in the earlier list.

The SSC has suspended the counselling for candidates who had completed their interviews on August 13. The counselling process will restart after the revised merit list is shared. Last month, candidates were asked to update their OBC sub-category details on the commission’s portal.

The Supreme Court has also asked the commission to complete the recruitment process by May 31, 2027. Now, SSC will complete the remaining stages sooner after the revised merit list is released. The commission will also revise the recruitment process for secondary school teaching posts having 23,209 vacancies. Under the revised reservation rules, candidates who cleared the selection tests in September last year will be called to attend the interviews.
