IIT Hyderabad opens faculty recruitment across 16 departments

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad has invited applications for full-time faculty vacancies in 16 departments under the regular recruitment drive 2026-27. On October 16, the application for faculty recruitment process will start and candidates can submit their applications till November 12, at 11.59 p.m..

Recruitment to the posts of assistant professor grade-II, grade-I, associate professor, and professor. Artificial intelligence, biomedical engineering, biotechnology, computer science and engineering, electrical engineering, design, mathematics, physics and climate change are among the departments looking for faculty.

IIT Hyderabad had announced recruitment on its official X account on October 16, saying, “IIT Hyderabad invites online applications for faculty positions”. The institute has also posted the detailed recruitment advertisement on its official website, which mentions the qualifications, research specialisations and the application process.

Departments and positions

The regular recruitment drive 2026-27 will majorly cover the the 16 disciplines like liberal arts, chemical engineering, chemistry, civil engineering, materials science and metallurgical engineering, mechanical and aerospace engineering and entrepreneurship and management

The advertisement indicates certain requirements for research will depend on specific departments' needs. They include natural language processing, graph machine learning and safety of agentic systems in artificial intelligence; quantum computing and cybersecurity in computer science and engineering; and robotics in mechanical and aerospace engineering.

IIT Hyderabad stated that in some areas of research, the recruitment will be based on the department-specific areas of research. The notification also says that “exceptionally meritorious candidates in any area of specialisation pertaining to the said department” may also be considered.

Salary and application process

The notification said the minimum pay of assistant professor grade-I is Rs 101,500 per month and that of fresh candidates appointed as assistant professor grade-II is Rs 98,200 per month. Associate professor and professor posts are eligible for allowances with minimum pay of Rs 139,600 and Rs 159,100 per month, respectively.

Candidates can apply through the IIT Hyderabad careers portal. The institute has stated that only those applications submitted through the online portal will be considered. Candidates applying to more than one department will have to apply separately. The notification also says that women candidates are especially encouraged to apply and that reservation provisions shall apply as per Government of India rules.
