West Bengal hikes contractual teachers’ salaries by Rs 5,000 from October 1
The West Bengal government has approved an increase in the monthly salaries given to contractual teachers engaged under different school education programmes and departments. “The revised salaries will be effective from October 1, 2026”, the press note read.
The increase in salary will also include contractual workers other than teachers who are working under the Paschim Banga Samagra Shiksha Mission (PBSSM), Paschim Banga Rajya Shishu Shiksha Mission (PBRSSM), and the School Education Directorate and the PM-POSHAN scheme.
The School Education Department of West Bengal has issued an official order on September 30, after it considered the proposal to revise the total remuneration which are paid to contractual workers under these programmes. The proposal was approved by the Finance (Budget) Department in August.

New remuneration rates
The revised remuneration order was issued by the Planning and Budget Branch of the School Education Department from Bikash Bhavan, Kolkata. The changes will cover employees working in various roles under the four school education-related programmes and departments.
The revision has been announced as West Bengal continues to implement programmes related to school education, learning and child nutrition. The scheme PBSSM operates under the Samagra Shiksha framework, while PM-POSHAN works towards nutrition support for schoolchildren.
