Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has postponed the principal and vice-principal recruitment examination for Directorate of Education in Delhi. This recruitment exam will be conducted on January 9, 2027, from 9.30 am to 11.30 am, which was earlier scheduled on November 1, 2026.
According to an official corrigendum published by UPSC, the exam is being held to fill 828 positions, including 704 vice-principal and 124 principal positions in government schools throughout Delhi's National Capital Territory.
The decision to defer the recruitment process comes after an official request made to the commission by the Government School Teachers’ Association (GSTA), Delhi. The association had sought more time for the candidates, who were under heavy workloads from their ongoing administrative assignments.

General Secretary of GSTA, Ajay Veer Yadav, stated that many government school teachers and vice-principals in Delhi “are performing Booth Level Officer (BLO) duties under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), alongside their regular teaching and administrative responsibilities”. Candidates are “not getting sufficient time to prepare for competitive examinations” because of these election-related responsibilities, combined with regular academic and administrative obligations, he added.
Highlighting the importance of the drive, Yadav noted that selection for these administrative positions offers thousands of eligible school staff a vital path toward career progression and leadership roles within the state education framework.
Welcoming the revised schedule, he remarked that the deferral would provide candidate teachers a fair opportunity to "demonstrate their abilities and competence" while fostering equal opportunities throughout the selection process. Yadav also expressed gratitude to news media, editors and journalists who gave prominence to the issue and brought the teachers' concerns before decision-makers.
