Aspiring teachers protested at Bhopal’s Roshanpura Square, demanding an immediate hike in Class 2 and Class 3 teaching vacancies in all government schools in Madhya Pradesh. Slogans were raised against the state government and education minister for written commitments on previous assurances on post creation.
The demonstration is being held in the midst of a long-standing concern by qualified candidates who say that the number of advertised vacancies are far less than the genuine vacancies in government schools. Narendra Rajput, one of the protesters, told ANI, that the candidates have been protesting continuously since November 17, 2025, even before the announcement of the exam results. “We have been protesting continuously since November 17-even before the results were declared. Back then, our concerns went unheard. On January 6, we held a historic protest”.
Addressing the gathering, Rajput told ANI that this demonstration had been organised after getting assurances from the officials but “ yet that never happened”. The agitation has gained momentum with candidates demanding a second round of counseling and increase in seat allocation.

Rajput raised a question against the government that promotions are happening everywhere, then “what are you doing”? He has also given proof that promotions were done after the results in the neighboring states, “In 2022, you promoted people in 23 cases. In 2018, you promoted people in 22 cases. Recently in UP, for the posts that were announced, there were promotions too”, he added.
The protesters said they are not against the 50% reservation for guest teachers but the total number of posts advertised should be reduced proportionately. The candidates have gone on hunger strikes and ‘waterless’ fasts to get the government’s attention. The government should provide a written clarification or else face more agitation,” said candidate Narendra Rajput, referring to clauses in the official recruitment notification that permit changes in the number of vacancies.

Candidates submitted a representation seeking an additional 3,000 posts per subject in Class 2 recruitment and the expansion of Class 3 posts to 25,000. Seeking a direct dialogue with Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, candidates stated that their indefinite agitation, which commenced on August 21, 2026, will continue until their demands for post expansion and official notifications are met.
Leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has extended support to the movement. He wrote to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on September 29. The leader, in his letter, has pointed out that there are more than 1,00,000 vacancies in state-run institutions, while the current drive fills only 13,089 Class 3 posts and 10,800 Class 2 posts.

Candidates also mentioned to ANI, that their indefinite agitation which started on August 21, 2026, will continue till their demand of post expansion and official notification is met, as they sought direct dialog with Chief Minister Mohan Yadav.
